Chaalo offers no cost, short-term learning journeys abroad for young adults who don’t yet have a U.S. passport and have financial need.

OUR VISION

We envision a more interconnected and peaceful world where all people can engage across cultures with respect and understanding.

OUR MISSION

By investing in first-time international experiences, Chaalo empowers young adults to begin a lifelong journey toward becoming open-minded and compassionate global citizens.

OUR VALUES

Experiental Learning is about doing, reflecting, and applying rather than solely through traditional classroom instruction.

Intercultural Sensitivity Development is about moving from an ethnocentric worldview (where one's own culture is seen as superior) to an ethnorelative worldview (where one recognizes and appreciates cultural differences).

Curiosity is about remaining open to new ideas, people, and experiences by asking questions and seeking understanding.

Adventure is about developing courage, confidence, and resilience by stepping outside of comfort zones and embracing uncertainty.

Community is about building relationships rooted in trust, respect, and mutual support—across cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

Humanity is displaying genuine empathy, grace, and compassion toward ourselves and others.

OUR Program

Our program will:

  • Be offered at no cost to the participants.

  • Be short-term, approximately 2 weeks in length.

  • Require applicants to not yet have a U.S. passport and demonstrate financial need.

  • Be intentional - designed to measure and achieve stated learning outcomes.

  • Begin with a pre-departure orientation.

  • Encourage students to step outside their comfort zones.

  • Facilitate interaction with local students and residents.

  • Include activities that connect students to the culture, history, and environment of the host country, helping them to understand the local way of life.

  • Include opportunities to volunteer in the community.

  • End with reflections to foster growth and deeper self and cultural understanding.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
